The  Abydos Kings' lists

The King's Gallery towards the back of the Temple of Seti I contains some of the most important  hieroglyphs ever discovered. Carved on these walls are the Abydos Kings Lists - the most complete chronological documentation of the names of the Pharaohs of the Egyptian Dynasties. They have been used to validate later chronologies, like the one produced by Manetho a thousand years later. The lists are not quite complete however, because the names of certain Pharaohs not considered important or significant enough, have been left out. A prime example of this is the omission of Akhenaten - the heretic king.

It cannot be overstated how important a role these lists have played in modern archaeology's attempts to piece together the complex history of the Egyptian Dynasties.
