This is where Al Mamoon's forced tunnel joins the descending passage. This is the point at which they must have realised that all their hard labour had finally succeeded. Notice the locked gate at the lower end of the descending passage - tourists are not permitted to follow this passage downwards into the Subterranean Chamber.
