This stone bowl is one of the thousands of Old Kingdom artefacts found in and around the Step Pyramid at Saqarra. It is fashioned from a single piece of rock, and shows unmistakable signs of being "turned", ie. being machined using a similar tool to a modern lathe. There are various giveaway marks on this piece indicating the action of the cutting tool.
